about Me
IN THE FLESH
Because worship requires more than imagination
Age || 40s (true cougar territory)
Proportions || 5’1, 130 lbs of power and polish
Passport || U.S. (alas, I surrendered my UN Laissez-Passer)
Education || BA in History, MSc in Economics, MPH, and currently employed to teach (remotely) entry-level statistics at a community college in Manhattan
Languages || American English, of course; Pennsylvania Dutch (just for so); polite and polished, yet still güera, Spanish; a shocking amount of Vietnamese (lived in Hanoi for three years and once tested at an ILR level 4); and enough Italian to seduce a truffle hunter with a wink and a smile
INDULGENCES & OBSESSIONS
Touchstones for the insatiable.
Favorite Colors || Fuchsia in silk, black and red in leather, atomic gold in light—there’s nothing like the real thing, baby
Favorite Foods || The intimacy of omakase, the succulence of filet, the comfort of Southeast Asian street food, and the holy ecstasy of well-executed Mexican cocina
Fun Fact || I once filled a passport, had more pages sewn in, and filled those, too
Favorite Authors || Mary Oliver teaches me to kneel in the grass, Margaret Atwood sharpens my claws, and Kurt Vonnegut reminds me to laugh while it all burns. Ernest Hemingway lends me brevity, Tom Robbins teases a taste for the absurd, Octavia Butler offers a map to futures both feral and tender. Judith Butler makes sure my gender stays slippery, while Toni Morrison and Alice Walker insist that the history of desire and power are always carried in my bones
Favorite Music || Techno runs in my bloodstream. House music is where I live. But the double bass of the thrash metal of my youth is how I learned to love EDM. Yet somehow, Alexander Scriabin topped last year’s Spotify Wrapped.
Favorite Films & Shows || The Phoenican Scheme (and anything else by Wes Anderson), Natural Born Killers (written by Quentin Tarantino, I like his productions too), Peaky Blinders, Six Feet Under, and the occasional questionable reality show (don’t judge).
Favorite Pastimes || Dancing till dawn, weightlifting, practicing pranayama and asana (I am a certified Kripalu instructor, though I have never persued that in a professional context), coaxing my feral cat into my lap while I devour books with spines, glamping under the trees' canopy dusted with starlight, preparing decadent meals for friends and lovers (if they behave).
